Chevy is hitting the track with its Camaro ZL1.

Chevrolet has announced it's going NASCAR racing with its new Camaro ZL1. The Camaro ZL1 will replace the SS sedan in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series.

"Chevrolet, Camaro and ZL1 are all synonymous with winning, both on and off the track," said Mark Reuss, executive vice president of GM Global Product Development. "We are thrilled to run Camaro in NASCAR next year, with the time-honored and track-tested ZL1 badge, and we're just as excited for our drivers, teams, fans and customers."

The ZL1 will make its NASCAR debut in February at the Daytona 500.

Meanwhile, Chevy will continue to run the Camaro SS in the lower NASCAR XFINITY Series. The Camaro SS has been Chevy's race car in that series since 2013.

The Chevrolet SS is going out of production this year, hence the switch to the Camaro ZL1.
