Polestar will begin taking orders for the 1, its plug-in hybrid coupe, in early 2018. The auto-maker -- which is owned by Volvo parent company Geely -- has also confirmed it will open the first standalone Polestar dealerships halfway through 2019. The United States and China will get some of the first stores.

British insurance provider Direct Line is offering Tesla owners a five-percent discount when they use the brand's AutoPilot system. The company told Reuters it's encouraging use of the system while aiding research, so it presumably examines driving data.
